Why "Niyama"

Five observances, one trust

In the yogic tradition, the Niyamas are five personal disciplines that build a healthy inner life. We've organised the Trust's charitable objects around them — each Niyama gives a name and a purpose to a cluster of our real, on-the-ground programs.

Governance

How the Trust is run

Niyama Health and Fitness Trust is an irrevocable public charitable trust, governed under Indian trust law and the Income Tax Act, 1961.

Board of Trustees

Managed by a Board of 2 to 7 Trustees; all major decisions require approval of the managing trustees.
Trustees hold office for life, unless they resign, are removed, or become incapacitated.
Vacancies are filled by the remaining Trustees through majority resolution.
The Board meets at least once every six months, with minutes recorded and signed by the Chairperson.

Financial Stewardship

All income and property are applied solely toward the Trust's charitable objectives (Sections 11 & 12, Income Tax Act, 1961).
Accounts are maintained and audited annually by a qualified, independent auditor.
On dissolution, remaining assets transfer to another charitable trust with similar objects — never to the trustees.
The Trust operates for public benefit under Section 2(15) and pursues Section 80G recognition for donor tax exemption.
